The Tech Dev team drives the research and deployment of cutting-edge technical initiatives across Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). Given the diverse needs of SPE’s various business sectors, team members are expected to bring a versatile skill set, spanning everything from upstream data analytics to hands-on experience in Production and Post-Production environments.

The Senior Technical Coordinator plays a pivotal role within the Future Entertainment Technology Group (FETG), which is the strategic growth and innovation arm of Tech Dev. Acting as a key liaison between technical subject matter experts, project managers, and business stakeholders, this role blends technical know-how with project coordination to ensure the successful delivery and development of FETG initiatives.

Working with the Senior Manager, Software Engineering & Project Delivery, the coordinator will collaborate closely with business units to gather and interpret complex requirements. This includes cross-functional communication across the wider Sony ecosystem, where development projects often demand deep technical collaboration.

Additionally, the role involves supporting systems within our Lab, including administrative tasks that require a solid foundation in technical operations.

The ideal candidate will bring entry-level development skills, a strong understanding of the entertainment industry, and excellent organisational abilities to help cross-functional teams deliver innovative solutions that shape the future of entertainment.

The position requires flexibility to work across multiple time zones, specifically Japan and US West Coast time zones, within reasonable hours.

What you'll do:

  • Serve as a technical liaison between development resources, project leaders, and business stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technical resources across multiple projects, ensuring communication and project participants are kept up to date with progress reports.
  • Monitor technical milestones and deliverables, identifying potential risks and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Document technical requirements, specifications, and processes for projects.
  • Facilitate technical meetings, capturing action items, minutes and ensuring follow-through.
  • Support the development team in the documentation of development projects.
  • Administer the FETG Lab, keeping it up to date and within technical compliance.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the usage of the SPE London Tech Centre, which is a virtual production demonstration room for Pixomondo (Sony Pictures internal VFX company) and Sony Corporation.
  • Act as a boundary spanner across the Sony entertainment companies and identify projects that the FETG could effectively support and run.
  • Develop prototype applications and support the development effort of our senior development team.
  • Assist in the maintenance of our technical repositories.
  • Financial reporting on our technical vendor spend and tracking of our project costs.
  • Support the FETG technical efforts more generally. This includes contributing to technical architecture, development approaches, and project management optimisation.

What you have:

  • Experience providing technical coordination of small to enterprise-wide projects, ideally in a media-related or creative production company.
  • Understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.) and associated tooling.
  • Knowledge of project and software development processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies, tools, and platforms used in the industry (e.g., cloud services, software development, data analytics). It would be advantageous to know production and post-production technologies such as editorial, distribution, and creative toolsets.
  • Understanding of system architecture, software development processes, AI/ML and IT infrastructure.
  • Awareness of industry trends, standards, and best practices. It would be advantageous for the candidate to be knowledgeable with the Media & Entertainment industry.
  • Proficiency in using project management tools (e.g., Jira, Microsoft Project, Trello).
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Familiar with system administration, including managing servers, networks, and cloud services.
  • Basic development skills. Knowledge of how to develop in a single framework would be advantageous (JS, Python, Go).
  • Knowledgeable in documentation and presentation tools (Word, PPT, Excel, Canva & Miro).
  • Familiar with code storage platforms and documentation practices (Git Hub).
  • Ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders and have strong presentation and reporting skills.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to ever-changing project requirements and environments.​ Please note that this role is based in theUnited Kingdom.
