Overview
Sony Pictures EMEA Distribution Research team are responsible for supporting local Networks, Content Distribution, and transactional Home Entertainment businesses, with market and audience based quantitative and qualitative research, across all territories for all television platforms.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the EMEA research team as a Research Assistant or Research Analyst, depending on experience. The positions both play an important role in providing analysis to Sony’s businesses in the EMEA region.
Working with Sony’s award-winning Research team and based in London, the role will connect the business to audience behaviours and wide trends in the video industry. You will be working on projects across the entire EMEA region. Supported by your manager, you will be independently delivering analysis to fit research briefs received from business stakeholders and Research colleagues based in the region.
Collaborating with other members of your team and other functions within Sony Pictures will be fundamental to success. The goal for this position, and the team overall, is to ensure research is used effectively in decision making that positively impacts the business.
The role will touch on many areas of media research; consumer behaviour, landscape trends, linear and digital direct to consumer brands, transactional subscription and ad-funded models, in-region content productions and large content licensing agreements.
Core Responsibilities
Assist with and lead the creation of research that drives content licensing sales to linear broadcasters, Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) and Advertising Supported Video On Demand (AVOD) platforms across the region. Specifically, for large sales events and new and library TV shows and feature films.
Understand and utilise over-arching consumer trends driving digital retail sales for Sony. This will include working on Sony’s upcoming movie titles such as Spider-Man, 28-Years Later, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Caught Stealing and Anaconda.
With a broad regional remit, this position will be a key in communicating insight – creating and sharing concise and visually appealing materials with the Research team and broader business.
Learning methodologies and applications for Sony’s acquired third-party datasets will be an early focus.
Skills and Experience
- Typically 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role with experience of the media industry for Analyst level, or relevant qualifications for Assistant level.
Some previous experience in either a market research or media position is beneficial for Analyst level role. Relevant education for Assistant level would be ideal.
Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, largely managing your workload and delivery timelines independently.
Must have a strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to analyse numbers.
Must have strong verbal, written and visual communication skills.
Proficiency in Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook and Teams is essential.
Must be a strong team player with the ability to work independently.
Passion for the film and television industry, particularly Hollywood movies and U.S. TV series. Working knowledge of key consumption behaviour trends and major industry players.
Experience of using TV ratings data and software would be beneficial.
Exposure to how Primary Research data can be created and used would be preferred.
Knowledge of Tableau or other data visualisation tools would be an advantage, but is not essential. Interest in, or application of Generative AI tools in relation to research.
- Language skills: English essential, other languages from the EMEA region would be beneficial, but not a requirement.
- Experience of TV measurement software or datasets (for example; TechEdge, EMS, BARB, Nielsen etc.) would be preferred, but not essential.
- Experience with key media research tools such as; GWI, YouGov Signal, Parrot Analytics, Whip Media/TV Time, GoldMedia VOD-ratings, Digital-I SoDA, Foresigth Factory, FutureSource, Ampere, ComScore, OCC etc. would be helpful, but not essential.
